FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY AT VITAL MENTAL HEALTH

Do you only treat addiction?

No. While we are highly experienced in providing addiction recovery and relapse prevention counseling, we also treat a myriad of other mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, Complex PTSD, anger management, self-worth and shame concerns, intimacy issues, fatherhood difficulties, suicidal ideation, grief, and so much more.

Please visit our Services Overview page to review our specialized service offerings.

What addictions do you treat?
We specialize in treating substance use, pornography addiction, sex addiction, alcoholism, and other compulsory behaviors.
Is porn addiction real?
Absolutely. Pornography affects many of the same areas of the brain as addictive drugs and alcohol do. Unlike alcohol and drugs, pornography is readily available in unlimited quantities. Some would argue that this makes porn more addictive than substances.
Can you prescribe medication?
No. We are unable to prescribe psychiatric medication at this time.
How long will it take to recover?

It depends. Recovery from addiction is largely based on how willing a client is to be honest and committed throughout the process. Every client is different, and while some clients respond well to long-term engagement, others respond better to higher intensity but shorter duration treatment solutions. Please contact us to discuss options.

How long will therapy last? What is the frequency and duration?

The frequency and duration of therapy will vary depending on your unique needs and preferences. Some clients prefer intensive therapy sessions (longer sessions over a short period of time) or want brief interventions (4-8 sessions). Others prefer to meet twice a week, once a week, or biweekly throughout their current season of life. In our experience, we have found that weekly sessions are ideal for new clients. After 2-3 months, some clients may reduce to biweekly or monthly as part of an ongoing mental health care program.

Every client is different, and we collaborate with each client to customize a treatment plan that is suitable for their unique needs and preferences.

Do you only serve men?

No. While we specialize in men’s mental health, we also treat couples and partners who have been betrayed by someone who is sexually addicted.

Do you offer couples counseling?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with couples. We specialize in helping couples navigate relational and emotional crisis, trust issues and betrayal (including infidelity), intimacy issues, communication breakdown, emotional disconnection, differences in needs, expectations, or attachments styles, and much more.

Please note: Our practice specializes in monogamous relationship structures and does not offer therapy for polyamorous relationships.

Do you offer group or family therapy?

Currently, no.

Do you offer therapy for children and adolescents?

Currently, we do not offer child therapy. However, several of our services are available for adolescents ages 14 and up.

Do you take insurance?
We are currently in-network with Aetna, HealthPartners, Cigna, Evernorth, and Blue Cross Blue Shield

Also, to streamline the process of getting reimbursed for out-of-network therapy benefits, we’ve partnered with Mentaya

Mentaya is perfect if you:

    • Have out-of-network benefits
    • Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
  • Failed to get any reimbursement even after submitting superbills

Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for Mentaya: https://mentaya.co/inviteclient/ZS4vuXdtuhn6wRyHE1kU
  2. We will enter/submit your sessions for you into the platform.
  3. Mentaya will then process the claim and handle any insurance follow-up.
  4. You get reimbursed by insurance! Please note that Mentaya does charge a 5% fee per claim. That 5% fee includes any required paperwork handling, dealing with denials, and calling/communicating with insurance companies on your behalf.

Mentaya is a risk-free service. Meaning, they guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or else they issue a full refund of their fees.

What is the cost for therapy? How does payment work?

$190 per 50-minute session; $380 per 90-minute session; $350 per Chemical Health Assessment (Comprehensive Evaluation)

We will collect your credit card information at the time of your first session and auto-draft session fees at the time of each future session. Please let us know if you have PPO Health coverage, and we can provide you with a superbill which you can then submit to your insurance to receive any applicable reimbursement.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, per HIPAA laws, you have the right to provider-client privacy. Everything you share will be kept strictly confidential.

There are only two exceptions. 1) Therapists are required by law to report any child abuse to the County Department of Family and Protective Services. 2) Therapists are required by law to break confidentiality if a client is a physical threat to themselves or someone else.

Is therapy right for me?

Therapy isn’t a quick fix, but many individuals have found therapy to be a powerful pathway for experiencing real change. In our experience, it largely depends on the quality of your therapeutic experience. Working with a provider who is well-trained and experienced in the concerns that compelled you to seek therapy can make all the difference. The therapist-client relationship is considered one of the most important factors in determining successful outcomes, so finding a therapist who understands the nuances of your experiences is paramount.
